In the first quarter of 2010, Airbus delivered more commercial planes while Boeing delivered fewer compared to the same period a year ago. Airbus said it sold 60 aircraft and delivered 122 in the first quarter, up from 22 gross orders and 116 deliveries in the first quarter of last year. The European plane maker said none of its customers cancelled orders between January and March and its deliveries included three A380 superjumbos. Rival plane maker Boeing said on Thursday it delivered 108 commercial planes in the first three months of the year, with 86 of its deliveries 737 Next Generation singleaisle aircraft. Last year the U.S. company delivered 121 planes during the same period. However, Boeing said last month it would increase the production of two of its popular wide body aircraft to meet heightened demand from airlines. Industry association IATA have forecast that worldwide airlines will remain in the red this year, but will return to profit as passenger and freight demand continue to increase.
